A web page is a hyper media document. It is simply a block of text but typically also includes graphics. Sound clips and full motion video might also be a part of a page. The user who accesses it simply clicks on the mouse pointer on any of these linked spots and can receive additional information on his screen or transfer files to his computer.
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML):
The HTML is the standard language for creating web pages. It defines the structural elements of the documents such as headers, addresses layout information such as bold and the use of graphics along with providing hyperlinks. It provides a number of commands that can be used to place and format texts, pictures and sound on web pages. Besides, using HTML, a word or picture can be linked to other documents on the internet. Web pages are written in HTML using any text editor such as Windows Notepad and are usually named with the suffix “.html”.
After entering the HTML code in a file, you can view it using any browser. The browser automatically interprets the HTML code and formats the document accordingly.
Standards for HTML and HTTP are defined by an organisation named WWW.
