Statistical Functions Statistical functions are among the most widely used functions in Excel. 

Function  Description  
COUNT()  Counts the number of cells that contains numbers, date and time only. Empty cells or cell containing text, logical errors are not counted.


Syntax  =COUNT(Range)Where Range=Group of Cells  
Example  =COUNT(A1:A9)  
Output  4  
COUNTA()  Counts the number of cells that contains numbers, date and time, text, logical errors. Empty cells are not counted.  
Syntax  =COUNTA(Range)Where Range=Group of Cells  
Example  =COUNTA(A1:A9)  
Output  8  
COUNTBLANK()  Counts the Empty cells in a specified range of cells.  
Syntax  =COUNTBLANK(Range)Where Range=Group of Cells  
Example  = COUNTBLANK (A1:A9)  
Output  1  
COUNTIF()  Counts the number of cells that are the same as a specified value.  
Syntax  = COUNTIF(range, value)Where Range=Group of Cells

AVERAGE()  Calculates the mean (arithmetic average) of a range of cells.  
Syntax  = AVERAGE(range)Where Range=Group of Cells

MIN()  Returns the minimum value of a data set.  
Syntax  = MIN(range)Where Range=Group of Cells  
Example  =MIN(B1:B9)

MAX()  Returns the maximum value of a data set  
Syntax  = MAX(range) Where Range=Group of Cells

STDEV()  Calculates the standard deviation of a sample.  
Syntax  = STDEV(range) Where Range=Group of Cells  
Example  = STDEV(B1:B9)

MODE()  Returns the Reminder after a number is divided by a divisor.  
Syntax  = MODE(number, divisor)  
Example  = MODE (B1,2)
